For the Jigsaw Project, my group was assigned to make a Google Slides presentation on Individual Accountability. During this process, everyone was broken up into groups and assigned a certain element of the Social Interactive Model. Through this process, my group and I were able to delve deep into what Individual Accountability is and why it is so important.
Once we were done creating a Google Slides presentation on Individual Accountability we had become experts on the topic and were responsible for teaching our base groups what we learned.
Now, you may be wondering about what exactly Individual Accountability is. Don't worry, I'm here to tell you!
Individual accountability is the belief that everyone will be accountable for his/her performance and learning.
Why is Individual Accountability so important?
Individual Accountability is extremely important in the classroom because it motivates each group member to actively engage in learning tasks, thus preventing “social loafing,” or one group member benefiting from the actions of others, and ensures each member of the group becomes stronger.
How to display Individual Accountability?
1. Set high standards and clear expectations
2. Bring new ideas to group work
3. Do not "piggyback" off of other group members' work
4. Recognize your own mistakes and openly discuss them
5. Be prepared and have knowledge about the topic being discussed
6. Teachers can keep group work small because it allows each group member
to take part
Overall, I would say that my group worked very well together. We were all able to contribute our own part to the project, you might even say we demonstrated Individual Accountability through the process. All of us had our own ideas that we contributed to the project as well which was great! I thought that this project was super creative because of the fact that we were able to teach our base groups and our base groups got to teach us!
